Use Xbox Controller as Mouse on Windows 11

Plug in your Xbox controller and control the cursor from the couch. Controller as Mouse turns any gamepad into a fully functional mouse on Windows 11—no configuration files, no accounts, completely free.

Why use a controller as a mouse?

Windows 11 doesn't natively map controllers to the cursor. If you're gaming from your couch, presenting from across the room, or need one-handed control due to accessibility needs, a gamepad beats reaching for a mouse. Controller as Mouse does exactly that: the left stick moves your cursor, the triggers and buttons handle clicks and scrolling, and everything works across the entire desktop—browsers, media players, any window.

The tool works with Xbox controllers (including Xbox Series X|S pads), PlayStation DualShock 4, DualSense, and most XInput gamepads. Connect the controller via USB or wireless receiver, and you're ready to go. No vendor drivers, no special software—just the controller and Windows 11.

How it works

Controller as Mouse reads your gamepad input and moves the system cursor. The left stick has an acceleration curve built in—move it slightly near the center for precision, push it to the edge for speed. The right stick scrolls vertically and horizontally. Press **A** or **RT** to left-click, **X** for right-click, **R3** (right-stick press) for middle-click. Hold **LT** to slow down the cursor when you need precision work.

The mapping repeats standard keyboard and mouse input—nothing proprietary gets sent to your system, so it behaves like a regular input device. You can toggle the entire mapping on and off with **Start + Back** on the pad or **Ctrl + Alt + M** on the keyboard, useful if you're switching between gaming and desktop use.

Get started in 4 steps

  1. Download the installer Download ControllerAsMouse.zip from the Releases page and run the installer.
  2. Run the MSI installer Launch ControllerAsMouse.msi. Windows 11 may show a SmartScreen warning—click 'More info' and then 'Run anyway'. Installation takes seconds.
  3. Connect your controller Plug in your Xbox, DualShock 4, or DualSense pad. The app shows which controller is connected.
  4. Move the left stick Your cursor follows. Scroll with the right stick, click with A or RT. Adjust sensitivity in the UI sliders if needed.

Customize with profiles and sliders

Unlike older controller-to-mouse tools, you don't edit text files. Controller as Mouse has sliders built into the interface: adjust Cursor Speed, Scroll Speed, Deadzone, and Acceleration by dragging—changes apply instantly. If you pull the LT trigger, you can fine-tune the cursor movement proportionally.

Save multiple profiles as presets. The app includes 'Couch / Media', 'Precision', and 'Left-handed' profiles, and you can create your own. Left-handed mode swaps the sticks so you can drive everything with your left hand. Profiles live in your Windows user folder and sync if you enable 'Start with Windows'—the app launches minimized to the tray each time you log in.

Questions

Will this work in games?

Controller as Mouse moves the actual Windows cursor and sends standard keyboard/mouse input. Many games don't detect cursor movement as aim input. For gaming, check your game's settings or use a gamepad natively if the game supports it. The app is designed for desktop and media control, not competitive gaming aim.

Can I use it offline?

Yes. The app is 100% offline—no internet required, no cloud, no accounts.

Which controllers work?

Xbox controllers (all generations), PlayStation DualShock 4 and DualSense, and most XInput/DirectInput gamepads. Connect via USB or wireless receiver.

Does it install drivers?

No. It reads controllers using SDL2's standard API and moves the cursor with Windows' built-in SendInput function. No kernel drivers, no low-level hooks.

Can I set it to start with Windows?

Yes. Tick 'Start with Windows' in the settings, and the app launches minimized to the system tray when you log in. You can toggle it on and off from the tray menu.
